4 days until Camp NaNoWriMo
I have come to the conclusion that I don't really like writing book reviews. I either feel like I'm rambling on too much about the plot and not saying what I think of the book or I'm pointing out every little thing that irked me. Neither of which is very helpful to anyone.
So I will not be writing them anymore. I may mention a book I'm reading or talk about one I want to read. I may even write a few sentences about a book on Goodreads, but you will not see a review on this blog.
Of course, there is the fact that I'm in the middle of a Wonderful Week right now. I will continue to read the series and maybe post a quote or two, but I'm not going to review each book.
Brooke, I've always thought I didn't do a good job with book reviews, because mine are too long. Plus I worry I'll say too much and give the book away or not enough of the right things so others won't know how awesome a read it is. So many blogs have book reviews, you could stand out in a great way by NOT having them. :)
ReplyDeleteI’m delighted to be a new follower and have left a response to your comment on Bird’s-eye View at http://michellefayard.blogspot.com/2011/07/getting-blog-comments-to-work-for-you.html.
and thats that!
ReplyDeletefeel good to write decisions out, makes it feel more concrete, doesnt it?
good for you!
enjoy reading w/o the pressure of reviewing =)
You might reconsider. If you write book reviews in the form of a synopsis, it gives you good practice. Ignore all your feelings and summarize the book the way all the synopsis guides tell you to. Then, when you write the synopsis for your own novel, you’ll be able to handle it more objectively.
ReplyDeleteI generally don't write book reviews on my blog. There have been some exceptions when I've just had the overpowering urge to ramble on (yes, ramble!) about a fabulous book. But for the most part, I stick to GoodReads for spewing my thoughts about books.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind writing book reviews. Sometimes though people don't like what I say. Meh. Honesty is the best policy.
ReplyDeleteNice. I'd probably suck at it too, but then I have a no-review policy on my blog.
ReplyDelete:-)
I'm happy you've been having a Wonderful Week. I liked your book reviews, though I did notice you did give away a bit for those who hadn't read them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'm bad at them or not. I've only done a few on my blog, but I do them all the time on Goodreads. On 08/12, I'm doing one for a soon-to-be published book I was a beta reader for. I'd better read the book (again)!
Good for you! If you feel awkward at them, I sincerely believe you shouldn't do them. Find what you excel at and do that. There are other ways to support your fellow authors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog. I'm following you now too!
