I'm Doing It!

I'm going to brag, because sometimes it's good for you. And because this is the Internet so I can't see your disapproving faces while I do it. ;P

Today I accomplished something I am very proud of. Do you want to know what it is? Do you? Do you? Do you?

Okay, I'll tell you.

I completed five index cards for my THINKING OF YOU storyboard. Five.

It doesn't matter that they were simply summarizing the chapters. That I didn't have to even think about whether the scenes should be majorly revised to fit my changing storyline. Nope. It only matters that I sat down and did it. (Plus, the way I look at it, it means I have a strong beginning.)

I have to do this for the next five days to complete my first Half-Month Goal for THINKING OF YOU on time. I can do it. I know I can. It won't be too hard because I've been thinking about how my scenes should change and be ordered for a while now. I just have to focus and take the time to actually PBICPIHAEOCS (Put butt in chair, pencil in hand, and eyes on computer screen).

Not only did I start my storyboard, I also reached the minimum word count for the day that I need to reach 42,000 words on OBJECTION, which is my Half-Month Goal for it, on time.

I'm feeling very good right now. :)

P.S. If you're interested, the first page of THINKING OF YOU is going to be critiqued on Unicorn Bell on Sunday. Stop by if you can and tell me what you think.

  1. When I start a project, I do the same thing. Only I don't write it on index cards. That's a good idea, though.

Congrats on reaching your minimum word count. I love it when that happens. :D

    1. Oh, don't credit it to me. I have read about many other writers who use a similar method and I decided to give it a try. :)

Thanks! It's a great accomplishment for me because this story has been so hard to write.

  2. I have index cards but they're used for notes about all kinds of other stuff. I do my outlining/plotting in a folder on my computer. Congrats on reaching your goals! Looking forward to seeing your work on UB :)

    1. Planning and notes and outlining are the only thing I completely do by hand. I guess that feels more personal somehow.

I can't wait to see what everyone has to say, especially Sharon. :)

  3. Congratulations. Story-boarding can be very rewarding for me, because it keeps me on track. I hope you find the experience just as rewarding. I'll definitely stop by to check out the first page of your story.

    1. I'm hoping to use it as sort of a checklist or guide to what I need to do in order to complete my rewrite. I will know which scenes need to be written, rewritten, or revised. Hopefully, this will light the fire under me that I so desperately need.

Can't wait to see what you think!

  4. Go Brooke! I'm so proud of you. :)

I don't use use notecards whenever I start writing new things, but that seems like a good idea. I have way too many notecards that should be put to good use, so I'll start doing that whenever I start a new project...

    1. Thanks. ^^ I definitely do recommend trying it. Of course, I'm doing it for my revising process instead of planning, but it can work both ways.

  5. I use the Snowflake method. It has helped me more than anything else I've tried.

    1. I've heard of that method. One of my good writing friends uses it. However, I just can't be that detailed and foreward-thinking. I have a limit on how much I can plan without killing my enthusiasm. I am very happy it works for others, such as yourself, though. :)
